Projects & Research I've Worked On

A selection of HCI projects and research that explore human–AI interaction, learning, and cognition.

Alterengo: AI-Assisted Language Learning from the Open Web

Alterengo: AI-Assisted Language Learning from the Open Web

Alterengo is a full-stack language-learning platform I founded that transforms arbitrary web pages into interactive learning material. It infers learners’ vocabulary gaps and pragmatic misunderstandings through natural, search-based interaction with AI agents, instead of relying solely on explicit quizzes.

Runner's High: Auditory AR for Real-Time Pace Feedback

Runner's High: Auditory AR for Real-Time Pace Feedback

Runner's High is an auditory AR iOS app developed at the MIT Media Lab that uses spatial audio and rhythmic auditory stimulation to 'sonify' a runner's pace relative to a target, enabling hands-free, eyes-free pacing and potential support for gait rehabilitation.

Perceptual Switch for Gaze Selection (UIST ’18 Adjunct)

Perceptual Switch for Gaze Selection (UIST ’18 Adjunct)

This work proposes using voluntary perceptual switches of a bistable Necker cube as a selection signal in gaze interfaces, distinguishing deliberate actions from passive viewing to address the “Midas touch” problem.

Peripersonal Space in Virtual Reality (UIST ’16 Adjunct)

Peripersonal Space in Virtual Reality (UIST ’16 Adjunct)

This work introduces the concept of an avatar’s peripersonal space in VR and shows how first- vs. third-person perspectives reshape users’ perceptual scope and attention, leading to guidelines for near-body interaction zones.

Gaze and EEG Analysis of Avatar-Based Navigation in VR (HAI ’15)

Gaze and EEG Analysis of Avatar-Based Navigation in VR (HAI ’15)

Two companion papers at HAI ’15 analyzed eye-gaze and EEG data to show how avatar perspective in VR shapes visual attention, peripersonal space, and neural activity linked to sense of agency.

Internet of Augmented Things (IoAT)

Internet of Augmented Things (IoAT)

IoAT is an undergraduate capstone project that augments everyday physical objects—such as wall clocks and paper calendars—with digital information using computer vision, projection mapping, and laser-pointer interaction.
