Collecture: “GitHub for Online Courses”

Collecture was motivated by a simple question: how might we support collaborative intelligence in education, where learners not only consume content but also reshape it for new communities? Inspired by GitHub, the system treats online courses as versioned artifacts that can be branched, merged, and localized.

Users can fork an existing course, adapt its language, reorder or augment modules, and then share a new branch while preserving links back to the original. The platform tracks provenance and structural changes, making it easier to understand how materials evolve across audiences and contexts.

Designing Collecture pushed me to think deeply about version control, authorship, and audience modeling in educational contexts. These questions now inform my interest in tools that support collaborative authoring of learning materials and in studying how different communities adapt the same core content.
